With NFL Idle, NY Weekly Handle Takes a Dip
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Online New York sports betting handle was nearly $332 million for the week that began late in January and ended in early February.

The Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for the week was more than $41.15 million.

For the week of Jan. 30-Feb.5, the state collected nearly $21 million in taxes.

Lull in NFL Action

The week was notable from a gambling standpoint because there were no NFL games, due to the break between the conference championship games on Jan. 29 and the Super Bowl between Philadelphia and Kansas City on Feb 12.

There was a Pro Bowl game in Las Vegas on Feb. 5, but that was largely a flag football event.

How the Sportsbooks Fared

Among the nine mobile operators in New York, the pecking order, at least at the top of the rankings, has been well established, with FanDuel Sportsbook New York the clear leader again.

FanDuel’s handle was nearly $136 million (almost 41% of the state total) and the GGR was nearly $20.2 million (about 49% of the New York total).

In second, as usual, was DraftKings NY, with $108.65 million and almost $12 million in GGR.

The rest of New York’s online operators were:

  • Caesars, $40.43 in handle and almost $4.62 million in GGR
  • BetMGM Sportsbook New York, $25.29 million handle, $1.89 GGR
  • BetRivers, $9.15 million in handle, $1.23M in GGR
  • PointsBet, about $7.36 million in handle, $979,284 in GGR
  • WynnBet Sportsbook New York, $2.35 million in handle, $168,129 in GGR
  • Resorts World, $1.93 million in handle and $146,166 in GGR
  • Bally Bet, $183,863 in handle, $18,981 in GGR.

Compared to the previous week, which ended Jan. 29, the recent week’s handle of $331.3 million was a drop from $344.85 million but the GGR of $41.15 million was a substantial increase from the previous week’s $27.33 million.

The GGR indicated a hold for Jan. 30-Feb. 5 at about 12.4%.

Not surprisingly, without NFL football, the handle for the week ending Jan. Feb. 5 was the lowest for a full week in 2023 but the GGR was the second-best of the year’s five full weeks.
