Record Week for BetRivers Highlights NY Sports Betting Handle
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

An increase in weekly handle is always a positive for New York sportsbooks and that was the case this past week.

Official weekly mobile sports betting figures were released by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) on Friday morning.

The Empire State posted its second consecutive increase in total mobile handle with more than $343.28 million for the week ending April 9, up $3.41 million from the previous week.

However, the state’s total mobile Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) went the opposite direction, dropping more than $15.27 million to land at a tad less than $12 million. The number marked the lowest since more than $9.98 million was recorded for the weekend ending Dec. 18, 2022.

Weekly tax shipped to Albany was $6,116,615, a $7.79 million decrease from more than $13M a week ago. New York has a tax rate of 51%, which is tied with New Hampshire for the nation's highest.

Since launch in January of 2002, the state has handled more than $21.710 billion, generated more than $1.792 billion in total GGR and has collected more than $914.07 million in taxes.
