NY Sports Betting Handle Jumps in Start Of August

The Empire Stateā€™s rebound for NY sports betting is underway. 

With the first full weekend of NFL exhibition games starting tonight, official weekly figures for the week ending Aug. 6 were released by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) Thursday. 

Total mobile handle posted at more than $317.50 million, a significant $71.01 million increase from the week prior ($246.48M) and the largest since over $318.35 million was reported for the week ending May 14. It also was the third straight weekly increase since $161.95 million was reported for the week ending July 16. 

Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) came in at $43.43 million, a $19.23 million jump from the week prior ($24.20 million) and the highest since more than $47.94 million was recorded for the week ending May 7.

Tax collected by Albany: $22,151,552, a solid $9.8 million increase from the week prior ($12,343,433). 

Since the launch of NY betting apps, the state has generated more than $26.553 billion in mobile handle, more than $2.312 billion in mobile GGR and $1.179 billion in taxes.

DraftKings Posts Highest Numbers Ever in Handle, GGR

By far, DraftKings was the biggest winner of the week posting record numbers in both mobile handle and GGR. 

The Boston-based company, which launched in the state on Jan. 8, 2022, posted more than $161.40 million in total mobile handle (its highest ever) and a huge $66.89 million increase from the week prior. Previously, its highest handle number was more than $154.07 million for the week ending March 19, 2023. 

It also generated more than $25.14 million in total GGR (its highest ever), an $11.76 million jump from $13.38 million the week prior. Previously its largest was more than $20.24 million posted for the week ending Jan. 22. 

Four of the eight providers (BallyBet is in its sixth week of transitioning to a new platform) had increases in their weekly handles (FanDuel, Caesars, WynnBET and BetRivers). Seven of the eight had GGR increases, except for Resorts World Bet.
