Two new records were established in the New York sports betting space as the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) announced official January figures on Thursday.
Total mobile handle for the Empire State exceeded $1.788 billion, up 10.2% from December ($1.623 billion), and breaking the old state and national record of more than $1.669 billion, set last January.
Mobile sports betting officially launched on Jan. 8, 2022.
The state’s total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) generated more than $149.42 million, up 5.4% from December (more than $141.76 million) and breaking the old record of $148.22 million, set in Nov. 2022.
Taxes collected in January: $76,207,972
New York sports betting apps are taxed at 51%, which is tied with New Hampshire for the highest figure in the United States.
Increases Across the Board, More Records
Eight of the nine mobile providers in the state had increases across the board, with the exception of Resorts World NY.
The perennial week-by-week, month-to-month leader - FanDuel Sportsbook New York – propelled above the field in January with more than $726.65 million in total mobile handle. The new number was the highest ever by FanDuel in the state, eclipsing the old mark of $673.05 million last March. It also marked a whopping $63.4 million increase from $663.24 million in December.
DraftKings Sportsbook NY came in second for the month at more than $593.35 million, a huge $69.46 million increase from the month before ($523.88 million) and its largest ever, surpassing its old mark of $534.56 million in Oct. 2022.
Rounding out the top five in total mobile handle for January: Caesars Sportsbook New York ($223.71 million), BetMGM NY ($122.93 million) and PointsBet NY ($57.96 million).
PointsBet broke its own mobile handle record and its $3.12 million in GGR was the highest since $3.08 million set in Feb. 2022.
Mobile GGR Top 5 leaders for the month: FanDuel ($81.87 million), DraftKings ($39.8 million), Caesars ($14.96 million), BetMGM ($7.2 million) and PointsBet ($3.12 million).
Two More Tidbits
- WynnBET Sportsbook New York had a mobile handle of more than $10.45 million, its second highest-ever since $11.52 million was posted last November.
- Rush Street Interactive’s BetRivers NY set a new all-time high in total mobile handle at more than $47.58 million, breaking the old record of $42.95 million just last month.
