In New York Sports Betting, Can Yankees Win 1st World Series Since 2009?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

The New York Yankees will open their 2022 regular season with a sense of urgency in a seven-game homestand, beginning with their rival, the Boston Red Sox, for a three-game set (starting Thursday, April 7 at 1 p.m. ET), followed by a four-game stint with the Toronto Blue Jays.

That’s right. From the get-go, New York sports betting folks will have to assess the Yankees against two fierce rivals as they begin their quest for their first World Series title since 2009.

Folks interested in betting baseball will be paying close attention.

Remember, at this time last year, the Yankees gave fans and bettors much reason for optimism. The Yankees finished with a 92-70 record, tied for second with the Red Sox and behind the 100-win AL East champ, the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees then lost a one-game playoff to Boston, 6-2.

Will this year be different? Let’s see what the sportsbooks think.

A Closer Look at Yankees Odds

On Thursday,  BetMGM New York released updated odds for the AL East, American League and World Series champions. The Yankees, just like their in-city rival Mets, are placed high in all categories.

To win the American League East, the Yankees, with returning ace Gerrit Cole, opened at +200 and have gone up a bit. The Bronx Bombers are currently at +230, second to the division-leading Toronto Blue Jays (+180). Tickets on the Yankees to win the division are at 20.3% and their handle percentage is 38%.

The Yankees, who have been criticized by their fanbase and others for not doing enough this off-season, finally did something on March 13. The team acquired Josh Donaldson from the Minnesota Twins for Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela. They also received Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who will more than likely be the team’s starting shortstop.

To take home the American League pennant, the Yanks opened at +550 and are currently at that number, good for a tie for third with the Chicago White Sox, behind the favorite Houston Astros (+475) and second pick Blue Jays (+500). New York is ranked second in ticket percentage for this particular wager at 15.5%, with 12% of the handle.
