How Much Has Aaron Rodgers Influenced Betting Odds on Jets?

How Much Has Aaron Rodgers Influenced Betting Odds on Jets?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

It’s been quite the offseason for the New York Jets. After months of waiting, they finally acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers via trade. And now, with the three-time MVP quarterback under center, the Jets have the look of an instant contender in the AFC.

Excitement already is high for New York sports betting and Jets fans. And the season is still four months away. (The official league schedule will be announced tonight.)

So, just how close are the Jets to getting to the Super Bowl? Or are they even a contender in the super competitive AFC?

EmpireStakes.com – your source for the best NY betting promos – is here to analyze those questions.

First, let’s look at the movement on the Jets roster in this momentous off-season.

Notable Free-Agent Additions: QB Aaron Rodgers (trade), WR Allen Lazard, WR Mecole Hardman

New York Jets 2023 Super Bowl Odds

Take a look at their Super Bowl odds via BetMGM New York over the last few months to see how their odds have increased:

Opening LineBefore Free Agency (3/8)Before NFL Draft (4/12)After NFL Draft (5/9)
+2500+1600+1400+1400

For the last few months, the expectation was that the Jets were going to trade for Rodgers and that’s why you haven’t seen a huge odds shift in the Super Bowl market. But you can see how much their Super Bowl odds have risen since the end of the 2022 season. New York sports betting apps clearly view them as a contender now rather than a borderline playoff team.

New York Jets 2023 AFC East Odds

Before the Jets can worry about winning the Super Bowl, they must find a way to be successful in arguably the best division in sports. Let’s look at the odds for the New York Jets to win the AFC East during the 2023-2024 season to see if they have increased or decreased following the NFL Draft, again  via BetMGM:

Opening LineBefore Draft (4/25)After Draft (5/9)
+500+225+225

It’s not a surprise that the Jets have seen their odds to win the AFC East rise significantly this offseason. That’s typically what happens when a team adds a three-time MVP quarterback to its roster. However, it is a bit of a surprise that the odds haven’t risen more since the Jets are a public team when it comes to betting. You would think that they would be +200 or even +175 to win the division considering Buffalo has had a quiet offseason. But that just shows the strength of the AFC East as all four teams could win the division this year.

Marcus’s Verdict

The Jets play in the toughest division in the NFL and will play a brutal schedule in 2023. But there is no denying that this team isn’t a Super Bowl contender now that Rodgers is under center. Even if he’s only an average-caliber quarterback in 2023, that is still good enough for this team to win a bunch of games.

If you are thinking of a Super Bowl futures bet on the Jets or any team, make sure to consult our guide on this site.

While the Jets shouldn’t be the favorites to win the AFC East, they are a fantastic underdog bet at their current price. And if Rodgers happens to turn back the clock some, there is no reason why this team can’t be a legit Super Bowl contender this season. They have all the pieces in place to make quite the run during the 2023 season.
