The NCAA’s Conference Tournament Week certainly brought on brisk action in New York sports betting.
The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) released its weekly report of revenue numbers for the week ending March 12 early Thursday and the handle was a whopping $442,694,347, the fifth largest in state history. It also was the second highest in 2023.
The highest week on record was more than $572 million, set a few weeks after New York sports betting apps launched on Jan. 8, 2022.
Week of Milestones Set in NY Sports Betting
The week also was highlighted by a weekly state record going down and several mileposts being reached.
FanDuel NY, far and away the No. 1 sportsbook in the Empire State, broke its state record for the highest weekly handle by posting $185,049,831. FanDuel also surpassed the mark of $8 billion in overall handle.
NY BetRivers and BallyBET NY also notched their highest weekly handles to date.
In another milepost being reached, the cumulative handle for all nine operators surpassed the $20 billion mark.
The NYSGC reported a Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of $40.396 million for the week.
The state raked in $20.6 million in taxes. New York’s tax rate of 51 percent is tied with New Hampshire for the highest in the nation.
Assessing the Sportsbooks
All nine New York sportsbooks were up in handle from the previous week. Six of nine went up in GGR.
For the week, the top five were FanDuel ($185M), DraftKings NY ($147.8M), Caesars NY (just short of $59M), BetMGM NY ($27M) and NY BetRivers (a NY company record of $11,830,920).
