Nathan's - move over.

The New York sports betting world learned Friday of another New York downstate casino bid.

The Coney Island casino bid - from Thor Equities, Saratoga Casino Holdings, the Chickasaw Nation and Legends - unveiled the project’s name. That is “The Coney,” a state-of-the-art, year-round entertainment venue that will provide jobs and help jump-start an economic revival of the legendary neighborhood.

The project's first renderings of the proposed project were also revealed for Brooklyn's only casino bid.

Situated on the famed Coney Island boardwalk and beach, the project's revitalizing power will help drive a Coney Island comeback for a community that has lagged behind Brooklyn and the rest of New York City in several areas, including a higher poverty rate, unemployment rate, and higher rates of New Yorkers without health insurance.

Update on RFAs

The NYGFLB announced Thursday it had received several hundred questions from interested parties during Round 1 of the RFA process for those three casinos.

Staff are currently reviewing those questions for any duplicate submissions, then will be drafting proposed responses for Board consideration, approval and publication.

It is expected that the response process will take three weeks (late March).

Upon publication of those responses, interested parties then will have four weeks to submit questions for Round 2 (end of April or early May).

The Board will evaluate and determine which applicants propose to best advance the following objectives:Economic Activity & Business Development Factors (70%), Local Impact Siting (10%), Workforce Enhancement (10%) and Diversity Framework (10%).

Downstate casinos will continue to be a huge story in the Empire State. You can count on EmpireStakes.com – your source for NY sportsbook promos – top stay on top of all developments.
