Companies Hint of What’s Next on Way to New York Sports Betting Apps

The process has been clear on the way to New York sports betting apps for mobile wagering in the Empire State.

Retail sports betting has been in place in four upstate casinos in New York: Rivers Casino in Schenectady, Del Lago Casino in Waterloo, Tioga Downs in Nichols and Resorts World Casino in Monticello and Tioga Downs in Nichols.

Earlier this year, legislation was passed to get the ball rolling to expand into mobile sports betting, which is extremely lucrative. The New York State Gaming Commission was tasked with naming operators that would be licensed to have mobile wagering in the state.

The Chosen Nine

On Nov. 8, nine operators were selected.

That group includes: BetMGM NY, PointsBet NY, Rush Street Interactive (parent company of BetRivers NY), Bally Bet, DraftKings NY, Caesars, WynnBET NY, Resorts World and FanDuel NY.

Eventually, servers will need to be placed for the operators among the four casinos. That process is ongoing. The hope is to have a soft launch and be ready to take mobile bets by the beginning of the NFL playoffs or before. It would seem to require a major collapse if the infrastructure wasn’t in place before the Super Bowl on Feb. 13.

So, for now, the nine operators are not cleared to start pre-registration for their betting apps.

But that doesn’t mean companies can’t start putting “Coming Soon” signs in the window that is social media. And that is exactly what is happening:

Some examples:

Viewers in the New York metropolitan area might have seen Caesars Sportsbook debuted a TV commercial on local affiliates in Manhattan. In it, Caesar (played by JB Smoove, made famous by Curb Your Enthusiasm , and Cleopatra are in a taxi cab saying the sportsbook is coming soon to New York.

You then are given info on how you can download the Caesars Sportsbook app when pre-registration occurs.
