Can 2000 Be Repeated with a Yankees-Mets Subway Series?
Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

After the New York Yankees and New York Mets both complete their weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, respectively, both teams will reunite in The Bronx, starting on Monday, for a short, two-game series to conclude this year’s four-game regular season Subway Series.

Let’s take a look ahead at that series, a look at the history of the Mets-Yankees in interleague play, and the possibility New York sports betting will see a Subway World Series in October.

History in Interleague Play

The Mets swept a two-game home series against the Yankees on July 26-27, posting wins of 6-3 and 3-2. It was the Mets’ sixth victory against their crosstown rival in the past eight matchups.

Since 2018, the Mets have had the upper hand, tying the series three consecutive times (2018-2020), and taking a 4-2 advantage last season.

Since the start of interleague play, the two teams have played each other in every regular season since 1997.

Overall, the Yankees hold a 76-60 record against the Mets in the regular season.

Games between these teams, of course, mean brisk business in NY MLB betting.

Of course, much more important, the Yankees forever will hold the 4-1 World Series triumph back in 2000 for their 26th championship.

Here is a breakdown of the Subway Series.

Regular seasonYankees, 76-60
PostseasonYankees, 4-1
CombinedYankees, 80-61

Future Odds to Win World Series Title

The Yankees entered Wednesday with a record of 72-45 (.615 percentage). They have lost three in a row and eight of their past 10 games entering tonight’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, who have moved within nine games of first place in the American League East.

The recent slump has showed in the latest World Series future odds on FanDuel NY as the Yankees have dropped to the third choice among bettors at +440, with the Mets fourth at +500. The Los Angeles Dodgers (+310) and Houston Astros (+380) are listed 1-2.

The odds for a division winning the World Series has the National League East (Mets) currently second at +270, with the American League East (Yankees) right behind them at +290.

The Mets (75-42, .641), who lead the NL East by just 3½ games over the Braves, have lost two in a row to Atlanta in uninspired fashion.

Both teams continue the four-game series tonight (7:20 p.m.) and play again Thursday.

The Mets then then will travel to Philadelphia for a four-game weekend series, highlighted by a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
