New York Takes The Crown

With a population of 8.8 million, New York City is largely responsible for the state taking the crown as the number one spot for creative career opportunities. The Big Apple really is the city that never sleeps, and where dreams go beyond the fantasies based on our favorites on NY sports betting apps.

In this state, there are a whopping total of 214,960 creative jobs available to those who seek careers in this brilliant sector, so the odds are high for creatives seeking out jobs in New York, especially since 110.3 per 10,000 people already have a job in the creative divisions (which put NY ahead of California in our ranking).

What’s more, New York offers the second-highest number of jobs for art directors (13,060), dancers and entertainers (3,100), as well as producers and directors (38,120). Not to mention, the Empire State has the highest number of editing positions nationwide, at 20,050.

Whether you're trying to start a career in the creative business or are looking for advancement opportunities, there’s something for you in the Empire State.

Going Back To Cali

With Hollywood being the home of blockbuster movies, it’s not surprising to learn that California’s rate of creatives is so high, with the second greatest number of creative jobs per 10,000 people, at 97.9.

If you want to work in the movie business, then California has lots of opportunities. For example, it has the highest number of audio and video technician jobs (7,170), as well as producer and director roles (49,340), and dancer and entertainer positions (6,760). Alternatively, if you’d prefer to go down the more design and visual route, then you’ll also have lots to pick from in California. The state has the greatest number of art director roles (13,060), as well as photographers (5,200), and media and communications (17,820).

Massachusetts, Vermont Take Next Slots

With 73.7 creative employment opportunities for every 10,000 people, Massachusetts comes in a very respectable third place. Numerous US citizens relocate to Boston each year to take advantage of the city's abundance of creative jobs, and we can see why.

With a total of 4,990 vacancies, it appears that graphic design offers the most prospects. However, it appears that producers and directors at 3,870, aren't far behind, with editors coming in second at 2,850. So, this state is another strong contender for US creatives.

The East Coast state of Vermont makes it in fourth place, with 4,650 creative jobs in total, meaning there are as many as 71.9 available per 10,000 people! So, while it might not be able to compete on the scale of jobs in the likes of more populated states like Texas, Illinois and Florida, opportunities are somewhat easy to come by!

In terms of opportunities available, there are the most positions in graphic designers, at 530, followed by editors at 360, and producers and directors, at 200.

Last in our top five is Utah, where there are 24,090 creative jobs up for grabs, which equates to around 70.4 per 1,000 people.
