Most Fashionable State in USA? Have a Guess?

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Friday is National Outfit of the Day Day. That’s OOTD for those of you who must abbreviate everything. The day was popularized on Instagram, of course, so users worldwide could show off their fashion prowess.

EmpireStakes.com took a break from New York sports betting coverage to rank the most fashionable states in the nation.

Using data from Cosmopolitan, FarFetch, PrepScholar and America’s Next Top Model Winners, we created a weighted points system to rank the most fashionable states. Data points include states of origin for the most popular American fashion designers and America’s Next Top Model Winners, states that are home to top fashion universities in the U.S., and popular opinion.

Here are the rankings from EmpireStakes.com, your source for NY sportsbook promos.

The Winner Is No Surprise

Nowhere in the U.S. is fashion prowess more likely to be shown off than New York.

The city is a cornucopia of clothing and cultures, designers and showrooms. New York also boasts some of the top fashion schools in the country with the Fashion Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, The New School, LIM College and more. Plus, fashion-minded students also might hit up Marist College in Poughkeepsie.

New York, therefore, ranks first on our chart of most fashionable cities in the country, with 22 points. California (16) and Florida (10) are second and third.

NYC is home to more fashion headquarters than any other city in the country with more than 900 fashion companies calling New York home. It’s estimated that the industry employs more than 180,000 people and generates nearly $11 billion in wages.

Virtually every prime fashion brand in the world has a flagship store in Manhattan, including Prada, Ferragamo, Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Louis Vuitton and more. Additionally, billboards highlighting the latest fashions line Times Square with 40-foot models gazing down at New Yorkers and tourists. The Met Gala each year brings out some of the most outrageous designs from top creators and you’re likely to see folks dressed to the nines in neighborhoods all over the city – in either designer duds with designer accessories, or counterfeit knock-offs.

Fashion Week Always Makes a Splash

New York Fashion Week is held in both February and September with runways showing off all the latest international fashion trends to buyers, the press and fashionistas. It’s one of the four essential weeks of fashion with Paris, London and Milan. The event was held at Lincoln Center for years, but now is held primarily in lower Manhattan.

The happening fashion scene also helps New York turn out top designers. Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, and Calvin Klein are among those who grew up in the Big Apple and Tommy Hilfiger was born upstate.

Finally, two of “America’s Next Top Model Winners” hail from New York: Laura James, from Cambridge, won in 2012; Nyle DiMarco, from Queens, won in 2015.
