March New York Sports Betting Handle One For The Record Books

March Madness turned out to be a success in the Empire State, as official March mobile New York sports betting figures were released by the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) on Monday. 

Total sports betting handle (retail and mobile combined) for the month totaled more than $1.792 billion, up a solid 21.6% from February ($1.474 billion) and an increase of 9.0% from March 2022 ($1.644 billion).

Mobile alone was more than $1.785 billion, up 21.7% ($318.99M) from February's $1.466 billion and up 9.0% from this time last year at $1.638 billion. 

For the 2022-23 fiscal year (April 2022 to March 2023) mobile sports wagering handle was more than $16.398 billion.

Let's Dig Into The Numbers

On the revenue side, March's total (mobile and retail combined) exceeded $163.58 million, a new state record and up a whopping 50.8% from February ($108.47 million). The number smashed the old mark of $149.88 million set in January. It also marked an increase of 42.3% from March 2022 ($114.95 million). 

The mobile Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for the month also established a new state record of more than $162.82 million, a solid increase of 50.4% ($54.54M) from February's $108.28 million and up 42.5% from March 2022 ($114.28 million). The record broke the old mark of $149.42 million also set in January.

Mobile sports wagering revenue (GGR) for the 2022-23 fiscal year exceeded $1.458 billion. 

State tax collected in March: $83,042,066, a $29.98 million increase from $53.05 million last month. New York sports betting apps are taxed at 51%, which is tied with New Hampshire for the highest figure in the nation. 

Not to be outdone, two more records were also set since launch (Jan. 2022): net revenue to the platform provider was more than $79.78 million and net revenue to education was more than $83.04 million. 

FanDuel Continues To Lead The Pace

To little surprise, FanDuel Sportsbook NY continues to dominate the marketplace and was the king of March, posting its largest mobile handle to date at more than $740.10 million. The number tops its previous record of $726.65 million set in January. 

The top five mobile handles by operator for the month: 1-FanDuel $740.10M, 2-DraftKings $589.79M, 3-Caesars $237.48M, 4-BetMGM $121.23M and 5-BetRivers $49.87M. 

DraftKings Sportsbook NY saw a handle increase of more than $98.49M from last month. 

Caesars Sportsbook NY posted more than $237.48 million in handle, its highest since $273.38 million was recorded in March 2022. 

Bally Bet NY posted its largest handle number, more than $3 million, since launch last July and its highest GGR ($207,727). 

WynnBET's $10.4 million handle mark was the third consecutive and fourth in the last five weeks over $10M. 

BetRivers ($49.87M) was the largest since launch (Jan 2022). 

PointsBet and Resorts World posted decreases in both monthly handle and GGR. 

The top five GGR by operator: 1-FanDuel $79.63M, 2-DraftKings $52.01M (highest ever), 3-Caesars $15.19M, 4-BetMGM $9.59M (highest ever), 5-BetRivers $3.58M.
